More deer throughout the night. Kept waking me up/kept me from falling back asleep for a while. I learned that deer have this understanding with humans: We both know we won't hurt each other, so they like to pester us.

23 MILES TODAY!

First 8 miles into Christi spring were long. Most of the day's schedule is set by the upcoming water sources. This section had sustained, long stretches (15-26 miles) between water sources.

Quite a few blowdowns. Mosquitoes near spring were awful. Met Blowout & Gonzo there.  11 mile dry stretch out of spring meant 3 liters. First 5 miles were boring with lot of blowdown. MP3 player died too. Was listening to On the Road. Blowout (thru hiker from Seattle) hiked with me for next 6 miles to small pond. 0.2 miles off trail. I decided to hike on w/ him since the company was refreshing. Ended up going another 4. The trail was very different & scenic for the past 6 miles. Along ridges and the side of of mtn's. The view from the saddle below Devil's Peak was awesome. Could see Mt. Thielsen to the north.

Camped next to Swiss German couple who is hiking stretches of the trail.

Breakfast in bed, heating water for hot chocolate. Mornings are always the coldest.

An example of a bad blowdown.

Blowout. So named for his shorts malfunction earlier in his hike.

The scenery opens up as we climb towards Devil's Peak.

Ridge walking.

Walking on stones.

 Saddle below Devil's Peak.

 Snuh.

 Steep slope.

Looking back at Mt. McLoughlin to the south. I was camped on its eastern slopes the previous night.
